Longboards feature bigger, softer wheels than shortboards, which give a smoother ride. Smaller wheels offer a slower ride whereas bigger wheels provide greater speed. A 60-75mm longboard wheel. Durometers vary from 73A (softest) to 101A (hardest) for longboard wheels (hardest). The harder the wheel, the quicker it is and may be utilized for power slides down slopes.

Buying Guide

How to Choose Good Longboard Wheels
Size
Check the diameter. Buying large or small wheels isn't only about fit, but also about the longboarding experience.

Let's start with the conventional measures before discussing wheel sizes for fit and speed. The options vary from 64 to 80 millimeters, with 70mm being the norm.
Some riders choose smaller wheels than 64 millimeters to enjoy classic longboarding.

Fit
Wheelbite must be avoided. Wheelbite is common on longboards with no cuts. It might suddenly cease movement, creating accidents. So the wheels should suit your setup.

Choosing a board with large cutouts around its deck is your first task. Any longboard wheel size may be carved out.

But if you want a longboard with no or few cuts, there is hope. Install a 1/4-inch riser pad. This allows you to purchase wheels larger than 70 millimeters.

Also, 65-millimeter wheels with a 1/4-inch riser work nicely for a park cruiser.

The opposite form of kingpin truck is higher. It has greater wheel space than the normal one.

Speed
For maximum speed and acceleration, you just need a basic understanding of wheel size.

Slowly accelerate big wheels. They take longer than tiny wheels. There is more stability over trash and fissures.

However, tiny wheels fit most longboards. They will also improve acceleration control. But they clearly have a speed restriction. On the plus side, it helps newbies.

Patches
The contact patch is the portion of the wheel directly in touch with the surface. The standard range is 38 to 55 millimeters, but you may pick from 29 to 70 millimeters.

Continue reading to understand more about current contact patch width and quality.

Width
Wide contact patches grip less. Some may disagree, but a weaker grasp serves a function. It's perfect for longboarding.

Skiing is included in freeride, although at a slower pace It needs strong slides to seem spectacular.

You may spin and do other feats to impress, but you must manage your pace to reach your goals. Less grip helps tricks.
A broad contact patch is obviously meant for grasping. For downhill sliding, the slower speed and superior control are still useful.

Wide contact patches make it difficult to switch approaches. You'll struggle to balance slides and grips.

Stone-ground contact patches are popular in freeride. They are lustrous when fresh out of the mold due to the mold release or skin covering.
Lip
The lip is the outside border of the contact patch.

Lips obt
It has a broad or pointy lip. It's designed for downhill riding, specifically. It is not advised for sliding but for deep carving and tight turns.

Lips round
Round lips easily break traction. Less grip facilitates the shift from sliding to grasping and vice versa. It works for freeriding.

Hardness
Surprisingly, durometer isn't the main consideration in determining wheel hardness. Examine the relationship between durometers and urethane formulae.

Durometer
The typical range is 75a-88a. Harder kinds begin at 83a.

Longboard wheels are softer than skateboard wheels, as seen by their 90a-101a range.

It also has better grip but less speed. For control and progressive rides, it frequently leaves a lot of urethane lines on the ground. Sadly, it wears out quickly.

High or hard durometers provide less grip but greater speed. It's better for rapid slides. It may also increase glide distance with each push.
Core
Placement, size, and substance all impact the quality of the wheel's core.

Material
The wheel spins faster with a tougher core. Harder cores may also keep urethane structure even while sliding. They are desired for even wear.
A hard wheel core might be problematic for downhill racing. When things grow too heated, you may lose control and fail to calm down.
Get the correct longboard wheels for your skill level and tastes, then clean them often to extend their life. It would be a waste to replace costly wheels more often than required.
